The mobile van, developed in partnership with the Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital, is fully equipped with advanced diagnostic and screening equipment. It is designed to bring quality eye care services directly to the doorsteps of underserved communities across Ladakh. The initiative was formally inaugurated and flagged off by the Hon'ble Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, in the presence of Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Hon'ble Deputy Chairman Shri Tsering Angchuk, and several distinguished guests, including senior officials from the health sector.
The event was attended by Dr. Gopi Krishna Pidatala, National Incharge for Special Projects, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations; Shri Lakshmikant Sharma, National Youth Coordinator; Dr. Tashi Thinles, Director Health Services, UT Ladakh; Shri Tsewang Gyalson, Chief Planning Officer, Leh; Dr. Dolma Chuskit, Chief Medical Officer, Leh; Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, Chief Controller of Finance; Dr. Rinchen Chosdol, Medical Superintendent, SNM Hospital; Dr. Jigmet Wangchuk, Deputy Medical Superintendent; Padma Shri awardee Shri Morup Namgyal, and a team of 10 doctors and 29 volunteers from the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation.
During the event, Shri Lakshmikant Sharma thanked the Hon’ble CEC and Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena for their consistent support and emphasized the organisation’s commitment to expanding its humanitarian services in Ladakh. He stated that the ethos of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation lies in compassionate service without discrimination.
Dr. Gopi Krishna Pidatala shared that the mobile eye clinic is part of the organisation’s broader vision of selfless service inspired by the message “Love All, Serve All.” He also announced a major initiative under the centenary celebrations – 1,000 free cardiac surgeries for patients from Ladakh. Screening camps will be conducted across the region, and those selected will be referred for free treatment at hospitals in Rajkot and Ahmedabad.
Bhikkhu Sanghasena expressed his deep appreciation to the Hon’ble CEC for his unwavering support toward the causes of health, education, and social welfare. He praised the collaboration between the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation and Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital, underscoring the potential of such partnerships to uplift communities and bridge critical service gaps in the region.
In his keynote address, Hon'ble CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson commended the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation for launching this essential healthcare initiative in Ladakh. He noted the significance of deploying a fully equipped mobile eye care unit to reach the most remote areas and reaffirmed LAHDC's commitment to strengthening healthcare services. He also shared that plans are underway to introduce a mobile cancer diagnostic van to further improve healthcare outreach in Ladakh.
As part of the initiative, the dedicated doctors and volunteers from the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation conducted a free medical camp at the Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital today. These camps will continue across various locations in both Leh and Kargil districts, ensuring that specialized medical services reach every corner of Ladakh.
Mementoes were presented as tokens of appreciation to the Hon'ble CEC, Deputy Chairman, and key medical officials. Following the inauguration, Hon'ble CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson, along with other dignitaries, inspected the mobile van and reviewed its medical facilities and equipment.
The Sri Sathya Sai Netra Mitra van was ceremonially flagged off by Hon’ble CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson, Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman Shri Tsering Angchuk, Dr. Gopi Krishna Pidatala, and Shri Lakshmikant Sharma, in the presence of senior officials, medical professionals, and dedicated volunteers.
