VISUALLY IMPAIRED HOSTEL

The Mahabodhi Hostel for the Visually Impaired is one of the most remarkable and compassionate initiatives of the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), founded under the visionary leadership of Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena. Established in 2005, it became the first school and hostel for blind and visually impaired students in Ladakh, marking a historic step towards inclusivity and equal educational opportunity in the region. The project was inaugurated by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the then President of India, who praised MIMC's dedication to serving the most marginalized sections of society.

Nestled within the peaceful Mahabodhi Devachan Campus in Choglamsar, Leh, the hostel provides a safe, nurturing, and joyful home for children who are blind or visually challenged. It offers not only quality education but also life skills training, vocational guidance, and emotional support to help students lead independent and fulfilling lives. Equipped with Braille books, tactile learning aids, and dedicated teachers, the hostel ensures that no child is left behind due to their disability.

The daily routine at the Mahabodhi Hostel for the Visually Impaired combines academic learning with spiritual and cultural enrichment. The children participate in meditation, music, art, and physical activities that strengthen both their confidence and creativity.
