A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been officially signed to launch Project “Odzer”, a transformative initiative aimed at providing free, high-quality spectacles to school students across Leh district. The project is a collaborative effort between the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), Leh, Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust, Mumbai, and the ONESIGHT Essilor Luxottica Foundation, Mumbai. As part of this pioneering initiative, all students up to the age of 18 enrolled in both government and private schools across Leh district will be screened for refractive errors by qualified medical professionals. Students diagnosed with vision problems requiring correction will be provided with spectacles free of cost, ensuring better access to education through improved eye health.

The MoU was formally signed by Adv. Tashi Gyalson, Hon'ble Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, and Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder-President of Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, in the presence of senior health and administrative officials. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Tashi Thinles, Director of Health Services, UT Ladakh; Dr. Dolma Chuskit, Chief Medical Officer, Leh; officials and doctors from Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital, the implementing partner on the ground; along with several other health officials.

Project “Odzer” reflects a shared commitment to child welfare, public health, and inclusive education in Ladakh. By addressing uncorrected vision issues among school-going children, the initiative aims to reduce learning barriers and enhance the overall academic performance and well-being of students.

We sincerely thank the Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust, Mumbai, and the ONESIGHT Essilor Luxottica Foundation, Mumbai, for collaborating with MIMC and for their generous donation of spectacles, which will greatly benefit the children of Ladakh. This collaboration stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when government institutions, spiritual and charitable organisations, and global foundations come together in the spirit of service and compassion.
