Reinforcing grassroots healthcare delivery in Ladakh, a three-day Mega Free Medical Camp was successfully organized at the Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital (MKCH), bringing together medical expertise, institutional collaboration, and strong community participation under one umbrella.

The camp was conducted from April 3 to April 5 with the support of Army’s 153 General Hospital, Khamsday Jabstok Welfare Society, and the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, marking a significant humanitarian initiative in the region. Nearly 1000 patients benefitted from the camp, underscoring the urgent need for accessible, inclusive, and holistic healthcare services in remote, high-altitude areas.

The camp was formally inaugurated on April 3 by Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder and Chairman of MKCH, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Brig. Rajan Kapoor, Commandant, 153 General Hospital, and Col. Ravdeep Singh Sohi.

A major highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the launch of PMJAY (Golden Card) services at the hospital. The initiative was unveiled in the presence of Tushar Anand, MD NHM UT Ladakh, Dr. Tashi Thinles, Director Health Services UT Ladakh, and Dr. Phuntsog Norboo. This milestone is expected to significantly enhance access to free surgeries and advanced treatments for eligible beneficiaries, thereby reducing out-of-pocket healthcare expenses in the region.

In his address, Bhikkhu Sanghasena emphasized the pressing need for compassionate and accessible healthcare in Ladakh’s remote areas. He reiterated the institution’s long-term vision of ensuring the year-round availability of specialist doctors while strengthening preventive healthcare systems.

The camp offered a comprehensive range of specialized medical services, including gynecology, ophthalmology, ENT, general medicine, dental care, radiology, and general surgery. A dedicated team of experienced doctors and healthcare professionals provided free consultations, diagnostic services, treatment, and medical advice.

The public response was overwhelming from the very first day, with over 200 patients availing services. Over the three days, the number of beneficiaries steadily increased, with more than 250 patients attending on the final day, bringing the total close to 1000 patients served.

The initiative stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion in addressing healthcare gaps in underserved regions.

Your health is our wealth; your well-being is our mission.” — Bhikkhu Sanghasena
